The Chive Hive

I just love the new and local owned spots that are popping up all over Indian River County. I stopped in Snowballs looking for a lunch when the owner informed me they only did shaved ice, but there was a great place about to open down the street called Chive.

After they opened I waited to see if the name came back my way and it did... multiple times. Family, friends, and coworkers were talking about Chive. So it was time to go see what all the buzz was about!

I got there at about noon and the place was busy as a bee's hive. With a small dinning area and what looks to be a pretty big kitchen Chive could easily have a line out the door and into the street on any given day.

But could Chive make the Lunch Box?

I have said it before and I will say it again... it's all about the smell when you first walk into a place! Chive's aroma was seasoned perfectly to get your stomach in gear for a great lunch. If you don't walk in hungry, that will change the moment you inhale that first intoxicating sent of top quality food.

I ordered the Slow Roasted Pork Burrito at $8.25 with your choice of homemade side. This may have been the biggest burrito I have had to date and definitely the best! The pork was tender and juicy with the most vibrant pico de gallo I have ever seen. Most tortillas fall a part with so much juicy goodness inside, but this one held together like no other I have eaten. Chive has a grand selection of toppings to place in your burrito, salad, or sandwich that makes ordering that much more creative. The guy in front of me put slaw in his burrito! And here is the kicker... There isn't a BBQ place in Indian River that I have eaten in yet that has pork like Chive!

Having said all of the above, here is the tough part. Chive's Slow Roasted Pork Burrito is just about at the top of the Lunch Box price range. It is also one of the cheapest meals available. With lunch options up to $15.75 Chive meets our "Great food" but not so much on our "Great Price". Yet, what they offer at those larger $$ amounts are things such as Lobster, Mahi-Mahi and Ahi Tuna so if you got it to spend then enjoy!

It would be great to see this local business grow into a bigger building and wider menu for the local worker looking for that great lunch at a great price. But until then, Chive will be a place I will gladly and expectantly go on occasion to splurge what few dollars I may have at the end of a work week or to treat a friend... (or be treated for anyone feeling generous out there!)

Being close to the top of our lunch money allowance, The Indian River Lunch Box gives Chive 4/5

  1. Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck!
